Montevideo, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban medical brigade working at the ”Jose Marti” Eye Hospital in this capital exceeded 50,000 ophthalmologic surgeries, a milestone that will be recognized at a public ceremony on Aug. 4.
The figure, including cataracts, pterygium (proud flesh in the eyes), and oculoplastics, is an accumulated history of the brigade, whose first members arrived in Uruguay in 2005, in the framework of an agreement between both countries, through which more than 493,000 patients were assisted in that period.
2014, a year in which we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Operation Miracle program, more than 2,300 surgeries have been submitted to patients with refractive disorders, tax affectations to treat oculoplastics, and retina affectations, as well as cataracts.
