Cuban Composer Leo Brouwer Honored in Cyprus

Political, cultural and academic authorities of Cyprus paid tribute to Leo Brouwer, famed Cuban composer, guitarist and orchestra director visiting that country, diplomatic sources informed on Wednesday.

According to Prensa Latina, Egli Pantelaki, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus presided over a gala in honor of the artist in the Axiothea Cultural Center of Nicosia, with the participation of government and parliament officials and civil society organizations, among others.

In speeches by Cuban ambassador Aramis Fuente; the president of the Pancyprian Association of Classical Guitar, Christos Savopoulos; and the deputy rector of the University of Cyprus, Athanasios Gagatsis, the life and work of the maestro and the richness and universality of his compositions were acknowledged.
