On the morning of April 30, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, president of the Councils of State and Ministers, received His Excellency Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Philip Anthony Hammond, on an official visit to the country.
During the cordial encounter, both dignitaries discussed the development of bilateral relations and opportunities to strengthen them in areas of mutual interest. They expressed their approval of the signing of an agreement regarding the reorganization of Cuba’s medium and long-term debt with the UK, which should contribute to the expansion of economic, commercial and financial ties between the two nations. They also addressed various issues on the international agenda.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by, the honorable Tim Cole, British ambassador to Cuba and Kate Smith, director for the Americas at the British Foreign Ministry.
Participating on the Cuban side were Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Investment, respectively.
Prior to the meeting, the British Foreign Secretaryheld official talks with his Cuban counterpart, Rodríguez Parrilla and met with Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a Council of Ministers vice president, alongside whom he signed the aforementioned debt agreement.
