Costa Rican FM : US Laws Encourage Migration

Costa Rican Foreign Minister, Manuel González, stated today that as long as the laws giving special protection to Cubans in the United States are in force, the waves of migration of these citizens through the region will continue.

“We have said that as long as the laws giving protection to Cuban citizens in the United States persist, this will remain a magnet for their aspiration to get there,” said Gonzalez in a press conference.

They will do all in their power, regardless of the cost, to get to their final destination, said the Foreign minister after opening an ad hoc meeting on migratory flow of Cubans and people from other continents in the region, held at the Crowne Plaza hotel, in this capital.

He meeting is being attended by representatives of Panama, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, Honduras, Colombia and the United States, as well as the International Organization for Migration and the UN Program in this Central American nation.
