Sven Tarp, head of a brigade of solidarity and member of the Danish Communist Party highlighted today the progress in the economic transformations Cuba is undergoing and the challenges ahead.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the European activist emphasized his ties with the island, which he has visited about 40 occasions since 1992, during the crisis called special period after the collapse of the socialist camp.
He considered the recent visit of the US president Barack Obama as favorable and ‘normal’ and urged the government to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade against this country.
He said that since then he has maintained a close relationship with Cubans and has participated in five International Symposiums of Social Communication, an event sponsored in this city by the Center for Applied Linguistics, leader in the national efforts for the improvement of the Spanish language.
The professor, a specialist in that language especially in technical translation and dictionaries explained that his stays have been motivated by events and by solidarity groups like this one.
