Victor Mesa to Manage Cuban Team for Match with Tampa Bay

Victor Mesa will be the one in charge of leading and managing the Cuban national baseball team which will meet Major League Baseball (MLB) American League team Tampa Bay Devil Rays on March 22, stated the Cuban National Baseball Federation Tuesday.

Such an appointment, responds to the performance of team Matanzas in the Cuban National Championship, managed by Mesa himself.

Matanzas remained as one of the four classified teams for semifinals of the National Championship, and the condition of being the maximum winner in the second stage of the competition, had a lot to do with such a success.

The text of the report said that Mesa was an exceptional athlete in his active playing days, and with his vast experience as a manager, he is in condition “to satisfy the expectations of the baseball fans, in a match so much loaded with a great dosage of symbolism.”

Victor Mesa, now manager of the team Matanzas, was also the manager of the Cuban national team that took part in the Premier 12 last November, and the one who managed the Cuban team at the 3rd World Baseball Classic. In that competition, Cuba was eliminated by Holland in the second stage.

The text of the report added that the 41 athletes convoked to the training sessions, have responded satisfactorily to the demands of the technical coaching board, formed by many ancient baseball stars of Cuba and expert baseball instructors, in the middle of a high commitment to decently, and in a dignified manner, represent millions of Cubans in the match.
