But a few CEOs and other high-ranking executives of the largest hotel companies in the USA have beat him to it.
One of them is Steve Joyce, CEO of Choice Hotels, who talked to USA TODAY about his recent trip to Havana, where he met with entrepreneurs and investors about U.S. hospitality companies entering the Cuban market.
“All of us have been waiting for this opportunity,” he says.
Obama has thawed relations between the USA and its long-time foe and neighbor Cuba, allowing U.S. citizens who fall under 12 approved categories to travel to the island nation. Last month, the USA and Cuba reached an agreement to resume commercial air travel between the two countries for the first time in more than 50 years. All the major U.S. airlines have applied for permission to fly to Cuba.
