For the first time, Cuban troubadour Carlos Varela will offer a concert at the American city of Tampa, as part of the Festival Gasparilla Music, as announced the artist’s office in this capital.
The presentation will take place on March 13 and the event will also be attended by famous figures like Erykah Badu, Greensky Bluegrass, Ms Mr and Houndmouth, among others.
Important musical bands like The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Trombone Shorty and Ozomatli were present at previous editions of the event in Tampa.
Carlos Varela visited Tampa for the first time in March of 2015, when he attended the world premiere of the documentary The Poet of Havana, at the International Film Festival of Gasparilla.
Since 2009, the troubadour has made several tours through the United States and Canada and has also worked to favor the collaboration between American and Cuban musicians and artists.
Considered as the Cuban Bob Dylan, Varela is part of the generation of troubadours subsequent to that of Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés.
His songs were very popular in Cuba during the 1990s although they were not so much promoted by the media.
Artists such as Joaquin Sabina, Ana Belén, Miguel Bosé, Ana Torroja, Luis Enrique, Pablo Milanés, Francisco Céspedes, Jackson Browne, Diana Fuentes and Ivette Cepeda have sung his themes.
