The Cuban film “Vestido de novia” (His Wedding Dress) increases its list of achievements today after the New York Newspaper Reporters Association chose it as the best of the year.
Cuban actress Isabel Santos won the best actress prize for her performance in the film based on real events that recreates the issue of transexuality and gender violence.
Directed by Marilyn Solaya, the film won four prizes in the 36th Havana International Festival of Latin American Cinema, and it was nominated for a Goya Award 2016 as best Ibero-American film.
The Best Director Award was won by Cuban Arturo Sotto for his film “Boccaccerias Habaneras”.
The First Work Prize went to Nitsy Grau, of Cuban origin (lives in Ecuador), with the film “Medardo.”
Since 1966, the New York Newspaper Reporters Association acknowledges the Latino excellence in cinema, theater and television.
