Cuba’s Septeto Nacional will perform on Saturday, January 16, at the Lehman Center of the Bronx. Accompanying it for its presentation will be the Broadway Orchestra of New York City.
Founded in 1927 by legendary composer Ignacio Piñeiro (Esas no son cubanas) the Septeto Nacional is considered to be among the main references of son rhythm. “To sing son rhythms you have to carry them in your heart,” says one of its hits. That’s precisely the slogan of the group and New York it will be no exception, Cubasi reported on January 14.
It is not the first time the group visits the Big Apple. The Piñeiro group arrived there in the summer of 1927 to record its first albums and also in 1933, for the Fair “A Century of Progress” of Chicago, where it won the gold medal.
