The Cuban men’s volleyball team triumphed over Canada in the NORCECA pre-Olympic tournament Sunday, garnering the team a place in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Despite the home-field advantage, Canada was unable to best the Cuba team, losing all three games at the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.
“It was time. In 2012 we lost our change in a five-set match against Germany. We were looking for a win. We had lost many times at the hands of the Canadians and this is the first time we’ve won like this against them,” said Rolando Cepeda, captain of the Cuban team.
